Hotel Riu Playacar

Riu Playacar Playa Del Carmen

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico – Honeymoon Happiness Part II

The husband and I ventured out to Hotel Riu Playacar in mid-January 2017 to beat the craziness of spring breakers and extreme heat.  From the moment we walked in to the hotel, relaxation took over.  Riu Playacar is situated among other beautiful resorts and personal residences within a gated community, with an added bonus of great souvenir shopping across the street.

Bright colors and decor filled the lobby, inviting guests to sit and mingle.  The staff was extremely nice and accommodating, the grounds neat and clean and the food – absolutely delicious.  The walk from the entrance to the opposite end (pool/beach area) was a bit of a hike, but with palm trees, hot sun and slight breeze you can’t comlain.

Our first floor junior suite included a patio overlooking the walkway to the pool/beach, as well as a king sized bed,  pull-out couch in the lounge area and satellite tv, oh and the A/C totally kicked ass.  The dork in me really appreciated the towel swan and teddy bear courtesy of the housekeeping staff and of course the fully stocked minibar and liquor dispenser.

The pools, lined with permanent lounge chairs, were well-kept and clean and a large swim-up bar stood in the middle of the larger pool.  Off to the back was a small kiddie area with their own little pool with slides and games.  The beach area was beyond satisfying with cool white sand (you know the kind that doesn’t even burn your feet!) and included free use of loungers.  Servers walked around with beverages of all sorts to keep you cool while relaxing.

There were always activities available for those looking to keep busy instead of lounging and great buffet style and theme restaurants to try throughout the day/evening.

Overall, we were very happy in our choice and highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to relax and have a wonderful time.
