Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Orlando, FL
Fantastic Massages & Service At Least
During our first anniversary-cation to Universal Orlando, I thought it would be nice for my husband and I to enjoy a relaxing couple’s massage together. We had 6:30 PM appointments, which I now realize I should have made earlier (but couldn’t because of our flight), since the spa closes at 8:00 PM.
After trekking through the grounds of the lovely Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, we finally found Mandara Spa. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with a friendly staff who directed us to a table to fill out our forms. Afterwards, Melissa (really nice and informative) guided me around the large locker room for a quick tour. Slippers, mouthwash, showers, towels, nuts, lemon water and almost anything else you could think of was at your disposable. The robes were a bit small (for both of us of course) but I was able to wait for my husband in a small co-ed area. Honestly, I wasn’t overly impressed with the small part of the spa that we were able to see in such a short time, however I was told in advance that there was a bit of construction going on and that we could use the co-ed jacuzzi in it’s private room.
After waiting a bit, Jackie and Oscar welcomed us into a large room that felt like we were in a dr’s office where the tables were far apart. Regardless of how the spa itself looked, the massages and foot paraffin treatment were both incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. Jackie worked on my husband, while Oscar worked on me and both were very pleasant.
When our massages were over, and although it was close to closing time, they brought us glasses of champagne and offered us the chance to sit in the jacuzzi for a bit, which we agreed to.
We were most likely the last to leave the spa that night but everyone was still attentive and thankful for our visit. Awestyn answered any questions we had and also informed us that as guests of any of the Universal resorts, we are able to use the facility, including the fitness center, throughout our stay, free of charge.
Now, although other reviews of Mandara Spa weren’t all that good, I can’t take away the fantastic service we received from the entire staff. Jackie and Oscar – two thumbs up to them! I look forward to returning again once I know construction is complete – and will definitely enjoy the other available amenities too.
